board meeting
Day two of medical spanish. Estoy muy cansada. I'm not used to waking up this early and putting in a full day at work.
Joe and I had to go attend the annual co-op board meeting today in our building. It was pretty interesting in that not-very-interesting way, but it gave us a sneak peek into The Lives of Adults and the Things They Do. Basically, it played out like a very bad med school class meeting.
BOARD PRESIDENT Are there any other issues to discuss?
TENENT #1 Yes, I would like to bring up the issue of the shared storage space, and why we don't all have keys to the room. Why can't we all have keys? It's a big pain to have to go to the doorman every time I want to access my storage space. I don't like it.
BOARD SECRETARY Well, basically, there are liability issues.
TENET #1 What issues? There are no issues! I want my own set of keys!
BOARD SECRETARY Well, for instance, theft. And vandalism.
TENENT #2 Can't we all trust each other? We all live together, after all. Can't we just agree to not steal stuff? Or sign a waiver?
TENET #3 I'm against waivers. I won't sign a waiver, I'll have you know.
BOARD SECRETARY We basically need some measure of control of who is able to get in and out of the storage space. If we give out 40 sets of keys, we would have no way of knowing who is in the storage room.
TENET #1 What could happen? Nothing! Where's my key?
BOARD SECRETARY Well, for example...someone could have a berry aneurysm down there.
MICHELLE (Snerk.)
TENET #1 But that could happen anywhere!
BOARD SECRETARY What if someone threw paint on the walls? Then what?
TENET #5 Excuse me, but I saw Christmas decorations outside one of the lockers in the storage area, and I think that should be prohibited.
BOARD VICE-PRESIDENT I think those were mine.
TENENT #s 6, 7 and 8 (Leaving the meeting)
TENET #1 I want two keys!
And so on. I have to hand it to the board, though. It's a crappy job, and I'm glad that someone wants to do it. They're all lawyers and financial analysts and stuff, so I guess it's easy for them to do it at home if they do it at work all day long. But I would not want to come home after being at the office all day and have a whole separate set of gripes and headaches to deal with. So I guess that means I won't be running for the board any time soon.

Tomorrow I have a dinner planned with my ward seniors and the four other interns that are starting with my on the floors for Block 1. We still have a full week and a half of Spanish classes, BLS/PALS/NALS training, tours, talks, and meet-and- greets to get through. PALS certification (that's certification for Pediatric Advanced Life Support, not for being friendly with others) is scheduled to go until 8pm the evening before we start our month on the floors. I think I need another six-month vacation right about now.
