biding our time
Joe and I both have been having wedding-anxiety dreams lately. Not of the cold feet variety, at least not on my part, but more of the "wait, did we think of everything?" variety. Such dreams include:
I get to the wedding but I forgot to pick up my dress.
I get to the wedding and realize that we have no florist.
We are late to the rehearsal dinner.
We forgot to mail out the invitations so no one shows up.
I arrive for the ceremony, and realize that I completely forgot about my hair and makeup appointment that morning.
Joe's dream last night, and I quote: "I dreamed that it was the wedding day and I didn't know what I needed to bring." (I don't know exactly what this means, but apparently, it provoked anxiety.)
And then, at 5:45am, apropos of nothing, Joe wakes me up and asks, "When your hair starts to turn white, are you going to dye it?" Um, what? My response at the time ("Mphghm...") probably didn't properly convey the concern provoked by such a question that he doesn't really want a human wife, but would rather take an ageless perfect cyborg wife.
I will not be an ageless perfect cyborg wife.
In other news...
Joe and I went to see "Better Luck Tomorrow" last night at the Chelsea Clearview. Man, I haven't seen that many Asian people together in a theater since I got those tickets for the advance screening of "The Joy Luck Club." My first thoughts on the movie:
1.) Wow, so they finally made a movie about my high school. 2.) I never saw a movie about Asian people that wasn't about the cultural generation gap, all about Auntie Lindo and the dead babies in China and how June never really wanted to take piano lessons in the first place. In fact, there weren't any adults in this movie at all. 3.) I never saw a movie that depicted Asian teenagers as the cool kids. 4.) Who was that guy who played Han? Do I know him from somewhere?
Yes, so on the whole, I found the movie extremely entertaining, and more importantly, very real. I would recommend going to see it if you're bumming around this weekend with nothing else to do. Or, better yet, make the time.
Meanwhile...
My mom is forcing me to get my eyebrows groomed for the wedding. I'm not a habitual eyebrow plucker, since my brows are sort of light anyway, but I was considering doing it for the wedding even before my mom said anything. However, there's just something about her telling me to do stuff that makes me not want to do it. Where should I go to get the brows, done, though? Not being in the eyebrow grooming network, I have no contacts, and this is probably the one time that I'd be willing to pay someone to do this task. And, as a further consideration, hould I go with wax, pluck, or threading? There is something fascinating to me about the idea of threading--I guess I'm just curious to see how it's done, I don't think I can quite visualize it--but I'm not quite willing to make a commute all the way to Jackson Heights, Queens (where all the Indian people live and get their eyebrows shaped) just to check it out. There must be some overpriced places in Manhattan that do this procedure. Do you know of any?
Borders is having a buy 3, get 1 free book sale! The perfect time to head over to check out some of the book recommendations that I've been getting. Has everyone in the universe read the book White Teeth but me? Seems like it.

Countdown to the wedding: 15 days (I realize that up until now, I've been counting down incorrectly, including the wedding day as one of the days on the countdown instead of Day 0. But now I fixed it. I can't even count right.)
