So I just read The Great Gatsby, and--I'm going to risk being very unpopular here--I didn't like it. There. I didn't like The Great Gatsby. I thought it was boring. I am an uncultured boor.
The only part of the book I did enjoy were the descriptions. The narration early on in the book describing the lawn abutting Gatsby's mansion, which ran up to the house from the beachfront and seemed to, as if from the momentum of its run, splay green up the side of the house in a wall of ivy. (I'm paraphrasing here.) And that famous line about Daisy: "Her voice is full of money." I loved that. But that was pretty much it for me. The rest of the book was BO-ring.
It's Chinese New Year's Eve, so we're going out to dinner with my parents tonight. Also, it's my sister's birthday tomorrow, so I have to figure out something to get her. Perhaps that patient from the nearby mental instutution will think he's Michael Jackson and grace us with a song.
