fun things to do while on call

1.) Get a plastic pitcher from the clean supply room, the kind that they give patients to put by their bedside.  Fill it with ice and water.  Drink out of it like it's some gigantic beer stein.  Fun, and hydrating!

2.) Completely date yourself with 80's kid's cartoon references.

MICHELLE
(After drawing bloods on one of her patients)
There, I'm all done.  You were very brave.

CHILD
Yes.  I was brave.

MICHELLE
Brave like He-Man.

CHILD
(Blank stare)

MICHELLE
You know, He-Man.  The guy with the power of Greyskull.  He was brave, like you.

CHILD
(Blank stare, also starts to look
like he suspects Michelle is insane)

MICHELLE
So...um...who here likes Thundercats?

3.) Sneak off to the corner of one of the playrooms and catch a nap on the soft, soft couch.  Then, test your own startle reflex when you get paged by the pharmacy three minutes after falling asleep to tell you that since you didn't dot the i in "Miralax," they can't fill the prescription.

4.) In a fit of Howard Hughes-esque paranoia, wipe down everything you own with alcohol because after spending only a week and a half in the Peds hospital, you've already managed to pick up three separate colds.

5.) Work for almost thirty hours straight, go home, and realize that you have to come back in the next morning to do it all again.
