wrong side of the bed

How's this for an unpleasant awakening?  An hour before the alarm rang this morning, Joe and I were in bed in a state of quasi-sleep, that pleasant zone where you're not yet fully awake and alert, but cognizant enough to appreciate that you still have an hour to go before you actually have to get up, so damn, doesn't your bed feel good.  Well, at some point, I decided to roll over towards Joe, unfortunately at the exact same moment that Joe decided to swing up his arm to accommodate me.

His elbow smashed into my nose.  Blood started gushing everywhere.  It actually would have been really gory were I awake enough to register it.  I just very calmly went the bathroom and started applying pressure with a paper towel, all the while trying to clean blood off my face and neck with a washcloth.  Joe was freaking out.  I think he was afraid that he was going to get arrested or something.

Anyway, it was no big deal--I get nosebleeds all the time on my own anyway, due to allergies and excessive nose-blowing (and not for the Ralph Wiggam "the doctor said I wouldn't get so many nosebleeds if I kept my finger out of there!" reason).  It stopped bleeding in about a minute, and my nose didn't even really hurt at all after the initial impact, though my eyes were tearing like crazy secondary to whatever strange evolutionary adaptation connects lacrimation with nasal trauma.  Like I said, no big deal.  It was just not the most soothing way to wake up.

I've been cranky all day.  Nothing else much of note happened today, neither highs nor lows, but I'm still cranky.  I think the thing to do is just to go to bed early and hope for a better morning tomorrow.
