big news
So that dinner last night was really good. First of all, I was starving. Secondly, the food was great. I was literally eating everything in sight. Bread, garnishes, the tablecloth. All so good. I ordered a rice dish with duck and rabbit. (I didn't eat the rabbit parts.) Joe ordered some giant bloody filet mignon. At the end of the meal, we ordered some wine, and shared a dessert.
And then Joe pulled a diamond ring out of his jacket pocket and asked me to marry him.
I said yes.
So anyway, that's pretty exciting. Afterwards, we went to a lounge on the top floor of this hotel nearby, had some champagne, and called our families. It turns out that my parents already knew. Joe had already talked to them about it and asked them for their blessings (read: for their permission) a few weeks before. And Joe's family already knew, since he's been briefing them on the whole process, so I'm like the only person on earth that didn't know that he was going to do this. I mean, we've been talking about it for a while, but only in the most roundabout, general sort of way. So needless to say, I was surprised.
I guess there's a lot of stuff that we're going to have to plan from now until next Spring. It's funny how getting married is this huge, lifetime commitment, but all everyone concentrates on from the outset is the actual wedding part of it. I know nothing about weddings, and have no idea what we're supposed to do next, but for right now, we're just going to relax, enjoy the attention, and let it all sink in.
I'm getting married. How weird is that?
